Here it is… The United States currently owns more than half of the worlds gold supply, literally trillions of dollars of gold. The price of gold has been going up and up very fast ever since the United States began implementing quantitative easing. As we all know, gold is priced in US dollars, so as the value of the dollar falls, the price of gold goes up. Now if the United States government continues to devalue the US dollar, not only are they reducing the cost of their foreign debt obligations, but they are also making fists full of money as a result of their gold reserves going up in value. This leads me to believe that the US has little concern for the depreciation of the US dollar because if it were to fall in value dramatically, they will have made up all of their losses and more by the appreciation of their gold reserves, not to mention the side benefits of having cheaper exports abroad. I don’t know about you, but this makes me want to add gold to my retirement account and remove as much exposure to the US dollar as possible.
