If you’ve ever got involved with any UK Ex-Pat community across the world, one thing that will strike you is many of them are experts in Satellite TV, Computers and proxies. For the simple reason that although they all have many reasons for escaping from the UK, TV wasn’t one of them and they soon learn to miss it confronted with the majority of TV in other nations.
The internet will hopefully be the solution but presently because of various licensing deals, it’s not that easy to watch UK TV outside the UK or US TV outside the US. In fact if you’re outside the country, you will generally get blocked when accessing TV site. Fortunately there are solutions which generally involve proxies for the computer based ones.
These servers shield your location allowing you to watch your favorite shows wherever you are. Unfortunately you’ll need an Irish proxy to watch RTE, a US one to watch Hulu and a UK proxy server for BBC Iplayer abroad. Hopefully soon the companies will work out that the internet should be global and work something out but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
