Amazon Playing Goliath With The Kindle

There’s a story brewing out which is not pleasant to read them is very similar to that of David and Goliath.  In this instance Amazon is the biggest maker of the eBook readers for sale in the United States with an insane 90% market share.  Publishers on the other hand are only interested in seeing the books been sold on as many platforms as possible.  But Amazon is being seen as the big Golliath it was imposing a three year contract which excludes a book publisher from selling their books on a lower price to competitors.

A typical book in digital format costs about $10.00 and the publisher might make some profit because there’s no need for a printing press and the distribution is almost instant.  However they still won the copyrights for the material and should be able to sell it at any price as they see fit.

As a book publisher you find herself in a dilemma.  Do you sign with Amazone which is currently selling all the wait out and hope the competition catches up and begin to need a way to almost total domination that the company has? Today any new digital reader being bought is likely to be an amazon kindle ebook reader.
